Professional Experience:
Mr. Justice Dan Mapigano (now retired) was appointed Judge of the High Court of Tanzania in 1974. On several occasions he also served on the Court of Appeal of Tanzania as an acting Justice of Appeal.
As judge of the High Court for 26 years, Mr. Justice Mapigano was the most senior judge at the time of his retirement from the bench. He presided over the most complex commercial cases and as result he accumulated invaluable experience in case evaluation and dispute resolution. Mr. Justice Mapigano has also been pivotal in promoting court supervised mediation as an inexpensive alternative to litigation. He undertook special training in mediation at the Superior Court of Washington DC in the United States of America and became the Chairman of the Panel of Trainers on court supervised mediation for Tanzania. He is the expert trainer on ADR and the judicially continues to use him for mediation training for newly-appointed judges and magistrates.
Following his retirement from public service in December 1999, Mr. Justice Mapigano joined FK Law Chambers to continue his quest for legal practice. He acts as arbitrator in complex commercial disputes. He also does early neutral case evaluation as a knowledgeable impartial third party giving confidential opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of a person's case to assist parties in making the decision whether to proceed with arbitration /court litigation thus saving them the unnecessary cost of pursuing weak claims. Mr.Justice Mapigano also undertakes extra judicial mediation and conciliation assisting parties reconcile differences, especially commercial ones, using the invaluable experience and skills accumulated during his time as judge of the High Court.
Mr. Justice Mapigano's joining FK Law Chambers adds depth to the firm's ability to deal with complex commercial disputes in a manner which is both inexpensive and efficient.
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Laws from the University of London, obtained in April 1965.
Professional Qualifications:
Advocate of the High Court of Tanzanial, a Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths.
